Capacity of Celestron Advanced GT mount

Hi Everyone. I recently purchased a LX200 12" OTA and have a question someone may be able to help me with. I posted a wanted ad for a used fork mount but received only responses for mounts that would have to be modified. I do not feel confident in my skills to modify a mount so I passed on these offers.

I also have a celestron C8 with the Advanced GT mount.

Searching the web I have seen the Advanced GT mount rated at 35# plus and I am not really sure how to take these capacity ratings.

I have read that the LX200 12" is going to weigh in at 38# plus any accessories.

Can you put more weight on a mount than its rating?

Right now I only have an interest in visual and not photography and of course I dont want the OTA to take a fall!

I have owned an LX200 12" in the past and currently own an ASGT mount with the 2" steel legs on the tripod. I use it with a C9.25 OTA and a 5" refractor for visual only and it works great for either. I'm afraid the 12" OTA would just be too much for this mount, even for visual.

I understand that Orion has a heavy duty, goto GEM, at a reasonable price that may be a better fit, but it would be best for others who have owned one to verify this.

Thanks
