I just wondered how many others had gotten the "diamondbright" coatings and what you thought of them?Mine were shot after less than 1 year.I was told by them that it was a "chemical reaction" due to humidity or some other environmental condition. Then i was told they (the diamondbright coatings) would be better suited for optics that were in an airtight optical tube.I don't remember anyone telling me that when i first brought the mirror to be coated. Not to mention that i had no recourse whatsoever or warranty. Another guy in our club also had the exact same problem.Anyone else?

In our club, I know of two folks who have had similar experience with Clausing coatings. In one case they damaged the face of the mirror while stripping the old coating and the poor owner had to have the mirror reground and refigured. The other guy's mirror started to get pock marked like yours after less than a month. Don't know if they were Diamondbrite or not.
We also have our 24" mirror Beral coated. After a couple years it starts getting translucent.
I don't use Clausing.

Several club members and I have had similar problems with their Beral coatings, also humidity related. These were both homemade and commercial mirrors. I don't know if these problems have been fixed or not, but we take our business elsewhere now.

Don,
Every coating that Clausing has done for me in recent past has failed in less than 2 years. This includes both Beral and Diamond Bright (sp?). I had to send my 20" f/4.0 mirror back to Galaxy for strip and recoat and now my 10" f/4.5 coating is failing after less than 2 years. Clausing will give every b.s. excuse under the sun. They should stop doing telescope mirrors altogether. I also know of 5 other cases of premature failure within our astronomical society. Years back, the coating from Clausing would last 10+ years. Obviously, I don't use them any more. They won't stand behind their work at all.
