Cleaning my Nextstar's Corrector Lens ??

I have a question about the corrector lens on my Nexstar 9.25 GPS. As you can see in the photo it has accumulated plenty of crap on the corrector lens. I have tried using a air brush and a soft lens cloth but without much effect. I am concerned about using any liquids on the lens. Can anyone advise me what I should use to clean it without damaging the lens? Thanks for any help you can give me.

That does not look that dirty to me. 8O I have an SCT and it has a little dust and spots on it as well. Celestron stated that it was of no concern.
Cleaning it is difficult as it tends to smear when you clean it.
I would say not to clean it until it gets quite dirty.
If you have to clean it do not let any of the fluids used go behind the plate as that becomes a mess quickly.
Ask the manufacturer for proper fluids to use, each may want a different product used.

Interesting. First time I've seen the front of one of these legendary scopes. Measuring the ratio between clear aperture and central obstruction in that picture, I come up with 37%. Is it really that high?

David, your corrector does not look that dirty at all...

I have a 10" LX-200GPS and I've cleaned it before, but I try to do it as little as possible, since the coatings on the lenses are very thin and delicate.

You might want to check this link, which has the method and the solution you'll need to do a good job (if really necessary).

I normally just use a very soft brush to remove all the dust, I bought it at Lowe's and it is called a WOOSTER BRUSH (paint department)

Take care,

David,

I have used the Zeiss cleaning solution with great success. I have used it on my 6" Fujinon binoculars eyepieces and objectives, and the lenses look new.

I just received an older C9.25, and will be cleaning the corrector with it.

For all I know it's windex, but it foams a little when you spray it on, and really seems to thoroughly clean the glass. I usually spray it on a white unscented kleenex type tissue, and gently wipe across the surface.

Of course you will want to have removed as many particles as possible by using a blower, or fine brush first.

Anacortes sells this stuff. Search mfgr's under Zeiss.
