I'm going to purchase an equitorial mount for a 8" Celestron Schmidt Cassegrain (about 12 pounds no accessories/diagonal). Choices abound, but I am budget constrained so I am looking to the far east. I'm looking at either:
1) The Apogee INC equitorial, 2) CG5 ITE e (polar scope, drives, steel legs included), 3)the new Celestron or 4)Orion CG5 replacements, 5) the LX55 (used)or 6) the Markus Ludes chinese equitorial. Ideas on the various mounts abilities to handle the load? Has anyone had experience with the Apogee, ITE, or Markus Ludes mounts? Has anyone had the Markus Ludes mount shipped to the us? Thanks

Budget wise I would go HEQ5. Nonbudget L-GM8.
I had an HEQ5 holding up my C9.25 for quite sometime before I switched to an Losmandy GM8, and to be really honest I saw Little difference between the two as far as stability. HEQ5 for the money is nothing to sneeze at, and you wont get stuck buying all the little machined parts that cost an arm and a leg that you MUST buy for the GM8(gear covers to name one example) that in my opinion should be freaking free for how much money you spend to begin with. Not ranting just being honest. My opinion.

If you're talking about the Synta HEQ-5 or EQ-6 when you refer to Markus you don't have to ship from Germany to get them. They're available in the States and abundantly available in Canada.

As for Apogee's mounts, most of Celestron's mounts, Orion's mounts and most of Meade's mounts. Guess who makes them all? Synta - mother of the HEQ-5 and EQ-6 smile For what it's worth, the HEQ-5 and EQ-6 are a breed apart from other, cheaper chinese offerings. Unbeatable for the money and high quality by almost any measure.
