Hi, I find myself tired hauling around all these heavy batteries for my astrophotography outfit in the field (camera, mount, STV, laptop, heaters etc.). Has anyone had experience with one of these devices? I've never seen one in real life so would appreciate some perspective. The ad copy said it was quiet with very clean power output. Not sure if we can post an outside link, apologies if not:

Thank you,

Hi,

I have the 2000 watt and it is excellent. Quiet and easy to start. I use it for camping though, to run TV's, radio's, coffee makers, microwaves, and laptops. Highly recommended. I got mine for about 850 shipped, I think.

Noise is a potential issue for these. While the advertisement
says "quiet" that is a relative term. Will the guy in the
neighboring campsite at 4 AM in a remote location agree that
it is quiet? Some of the larger Star Parties have rules that
say "use of generator is limited" or "absolutely no generators
before noon".

I have experience with them, and will agree with those that say they are relatively quiet--However, I would add--"very quiet for a generator."

As one other poster has said--the decibel rating says it runs about as loud as an average conversation.

Well how many of us would like to be set up within a few feet of somebody constantly talking at two or three o'clock in the morning....or even early in the evening as we are simply obserrving?

I have set up next to these things, and I do not like them.

An RV battery can pretty well run everything you have to run for a couple of nights. Just stay with it.

You could fashion a box with the back side open for cooling and insolate in with a couple layers of sound deadening material. Then run an extention cord and set it up far enough away that the sound wouldn't be bothersome.

The "star" we look at tonight may have exploded millenniums ago. (To progress, we must discern what exists and what does not).
