Financing Astronomy Equipment

Although I recently purchased an LX90 (and I'm very happy with my purchase), I'd still like to have a good 4" APO refractor. The problem is cost as its hard to find one for under $2,000. I wonder if there's anyway the retailers could work out an arrange where it would be possible to obtain 0% financing, in the same manner as the auto manufacturers are now doing. For example, it would be great if a buyer could put down $500 cash and was able to pay the difference over 24 months without having to pay interest (which varies from 8% to 16% on most credit cards).

I'm just putting this out there in hopes that some dealer can see the potential, as I'm sure there are many people who would purchase higher priced equipment (such as CCD's, Corando solar scopes and filters, APO's etc.) if they could pay over time with no or minimal interest. Just a thought/wish.

Hi David,

Not having to pay any interest sounds like a good deal. But first check up on the price. Anarcortes still advertised the FS102 OTA on sale for $1895 (a real steal). However, you need to add accessories (ring, finder, diagonal, etc., not to mention a mount) and they add up very quickly.

Alternatively, a used FS102 is going for a highway robbery price right here on Astromart!
