I know some of you out there still haven't experienced goto. Tonight was my first night. I recently sold my Ultima 8 PEC. I have missed it everyday since. But today I tried out the Nexstar 5i I bought to take it's place. I travel a lot to Central and South America, and the bigger scope was getting neglected. Anyway, this scope exceeded my expectations. I saw just about everything that was out tonight. I was pretty good with my old scope, but this is unreal. If you haven't experienced goto you are really missing out. I can't wait to try it out down south. It's way dark down there.

Well said Chris,
I don't know why there is such opposition to GOTO. I learned for 10 years the hard way. If I had goto from the beginning, I would have learned the sky in 1 year. It's great to see 40 different objects if you have limited observing time. Just make a list and go see things you would never have found without goto. It's like having an astronomy instructer standing beside you ready to point you in the right direction. I have the N5 also, and it's a fine scope with good accuracy and superb optics. And your right, it's nicely portable. I've carried mine all over the country, and would love to have the opportunity you have to see the southern sky. These scopes are "yesterdays news" and we don't hear much about them anymore. I still think it's one of the best bargains available in astronomy. Enjoy it, you made a good choice. -Kurt Horsley
