Guiding Scope

Hello
I own a LX200 8", and want to build a guiding system using a webcam and a guiding scope.
I'm kind of new in this hobby, so I need some advice about a good choice for a guiding scope.
Price is an issue, I don't want to spend too much money on it (no more than $150).
For example, I think that one of the ETX (ETX-70 or 90) would do a great job, but the problem is that it seems one can't buy only the scope, one have to buy also the mount, which would be a waste of money...

Any input?
Thanks,
Alex

I picked up an ETX 70 OTA from Russell Optics. They're listed on the home page here. It came with a crosshair eyepiece, dust caps and a set of rings but no dovetail. It also fits your budget. Check with them to see if they have any more.

You would probably be better off using an off-axis guider with an LX200 or any other SCT. THe problem is the mirror shift--as you move the scope, the mirror moves ever so slightly. In the course of a long exposure, the mirror will move ever so slightly, ruining your exposure. (Not everytime, but often enough that you should avoid the separate-guidescope with an SCT.) THis problem is inherent with the most commonly used focuser system. If you have a mirror lock you can avoid this problem (newer LX200's do, I understand.)

Other than that, and decent refractor will do for a guidescope. You can pick up such just by putting a want-ad on Astromart.

Be sure to get a good set of rings that allow you to aim the guidescope somewhere wlse besides where the main scope is pointing, and then fasten down tight, so the tube cannot flex.
