Help Servicing A C8

Hi All,

I have an old Celestron C8 (Orange tube for those who are interested) and have found the Dec slow motion control on the fork mount is getting a little sticky / stiff / ceased and in need of some TLC. I was planing to oil / lubricate it. What is the best oil to use of the Dec threads? Does it matter? Will any lubricant do such as WD40? Is there a better option?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Michael, WD40 is a NO NO...
Most people find "white lithium grease" to work fine with their scopes/mounts... you can find it at most hardware stores... and also I've heard some other people using "marine grease" that you can find at Walmart stores...

Others will chime in with their opinions, I'm sure...
Whatever you use, make sure it is NOT something that can run easily & affect other areas...

Remember to clean good the area from the old lubricant before you put in the new one...

My .02 cents... hope they help...
