Imaging mount for an Orion 80ED

Hello,

I am somewhat new to astrophotography and have done as much reading as i can . . .I know that the mount is crucial and i am trying to find the best match for this OTA. I keep hearing G11, G11, G11 but can't help but think this might be over kill for a small scope? It's not in my budget anyway, so i am trying to find best alternatives. Even the GM8 is too much for me, but I am not afraid to invest in the mount .. . .

Are there any others that can track well, but won't cost a s much? Used is no problem. Load would be the Orion 80ED or possibly a SV 1010. The cam would be a Canon 10D, and closer nebs, galaxies, and some planet and moon is my goal.

All help is appreciated.

I'm no imaging doyen, but I wouldthink that a Vixen GP or SP would be entirely adequate for those 80mm short tube scopes

Jeff,

For an example of a Canon 10D image using a Stellarvue SV4 on a GM8 see Stephen Pitt's website at http://www.light-to-dark.com/M31_10D_SV4.html

The SV4 is larger and heavier than either the Orion 80ED or AT1010. If you can squeeze the budget, I'd go for the GM8 or at least a GP-DX for imaging. Both show up on Astromart on a fairly regular basis, and most people take good care of them.
