Need some help please,

I have a mint MN56 with "outstanding optics". I was thinking that I might try and sell it to my brother-in-law, as he is looking for a "first scope"! The only problem is he will need a mount for it. I know nothing about mounts except my G-11 and the Parallax HD-150. Have an idea what I might look for that will do the job? He won't be doing any imaging whatsoever, like never. He is 6'2" tall if that helps. Is there anything availabe with tracking (or without) that isn't to expensive? A wooden, or used mount/tripod is fine too. Oh, I've used it on my G-11, so it has a dovetail mount now. It doesn't have rotating rings if that matters but does have Parallax OTA rings.

UPDATE:

I should of mentioned that I'm looking for something inexpensive that will do the job visually as he will NEVER do any imaging! Anything over $500, new or used, would be out of the question for a mount.

Sincerely,

hi james,
a friend of mine used a super polaris and then a great polaris for his mn-56 for visual use. it was not bad, but i felt it was at the edge of capacity for those mounts. i would be tempted to find something with a tad more capacity, but if that put you out of price range, the spm or gpm would suffice. boy those little mak newts are terrific scopes!
good luck,
glenn

how does that odd mount in the picture work? it seems to only have two points of contact with the ground. vibration supression looks good though.

Take a look at the DiscMount 4 and the Giro 2.

James, I just purchased a very lightly used Orion SkyView Pro with the polar scope and the RA drive. I have to say I am very pleased with its performance with a 5" f/6.5 refractor.
These mounts are a little over your price point if you get a new one with all the add on's, but either a used one or a new but basic model would fit your needs nicely. I currently also have a CI-700 that I am selling and I felt the smaller mount was essentially as steady as the larger one with the small ota I am using.

smile Hi. My first posting on Astromart. smile

My MN55 works just fine on my old super polaris mount. These go for ~$200-300 sans motor. Add another $100 or so for the motor.

By the way the MN56 is a VERY nice scope.

Cheers.
