Is the North Star true North?

Is it best to center the Noth Star with a crosshair eyepiece for alignment? Or is true North a little off-center? If so, which way? I'd like to understand this for alignment accuracy in a Go-To system.
Thanks,
Larry

Hi Larry,

Burnham's shows an RA/Dec of 1h 48.8m and 89d 02m (1950 coordinates) Using their precession map and a formula on the computer where I work (observatory), I come up with current
RA/Dec of (approx) 2h 21m 31s RA and 89d 17m 32s for April 2, 2002.

Depending on where your location is will determin how many degree off you are from "TRUE NORTH" using Polaris. If you want to know the deviation from your location here is a web site. All you will need to do is put in your location and this site will do the rest for you

Hope this helps you
