Only 2 options I would recommend:

Inexpensive: Baader solar film.

More expensive: Baader Hershel wedge.

I prefer glass filters...and my fave is the JMB Identiview (Anacortes sells 'em).

AgenaAstro has a variety of whitelight solar filters as well as the filter material, all at reasonable prices.

I suggest not getting in too much of a hurry right now, we at the low in the sunspot cycle and it has been this way for an exceptionally long time, probably over a year. Every so often a small spot shows up for a few days but most of the time there are none.

If you buy a solar filter, that may just prolong this period even more... smile

I think the Baader material is superb, and does noticeably better than my old aluminized mylar filter.

I hear people say they are happy with glass filters, but the only glass filters I have seen that worked well cost several hundred dollars (and are not available today). We gave in and tried a highly recommended glass filter for one of smaller telescopes some time ago and wound up sending it back. The relatively inexpensive ones I've looked through at conventions have also been disappointing.
