Lumicon Sky Vector

I have a Meade LX-5 scope and it came with a Lumicon Sky Vector object finder. I havnt tried it out till tonight and im having lots of problems. I roughly aligned on polaris, but one problem i have is the setting cirlces arnt perfect. At 90 degrees on the setting circle, the scope isnt near 90, so i have been using around 80 which seems to get me fairly well aligned. The Lumicon Sky Vector tells you to polar align, so i did (roughly), then it says to pic a star about 60 degrees away from polaris, so i picked Altair, which i dont know how many degrees away it is. Then it says to push enter when u have Altair in the eyepiece and then it gives a "warp" asto how far off you are according to it. Well it said mine was 8.1 which is not acceptable, anywhere from 0.0-0.5 is acceptable. Does anyone have any ideas as to why is says im so far off?

Thanks
