LXD650, cant get it to turn on

ive used it several times to input basic data into it, before using it outside for the first time. When i got the C11 on top with ken's adapter, and got it all set up i brought it outside for use...i have a battery pack thats compatible with it hooked in with a cig lighter, so power is no problem..but it doesnt want to turn on. Do i need to put in new internal batteries or something...or reset it somehow? Any advice would be really appreciated..i wanna finally use this!

Hi Mike, The exact same thing happened to my LXD 75. It was working perfect and when I plugged in my adaptor it was dead.

If the 650 is like the 75 there is'nt an internal battery, I would think that it is possibly a circuit board just fried out. You dont get any warning at all just like when a light bulb goes out.

You probably need to call Meade and tell them and they will probably give you a work order number to have it sent in. At least that's what they did on my 75.

Floyd has a 650, maybe he can tell you something but it sound's like a board burned out or maybe just a loose internal wire or a number of simple thing's.

Mike - I used an LXD650 for about 10 years. On the few occasions where it shut down, I always traced the problem to external factors - there was never an internal failure. The most common cause was low voltage from the battery and the best way to check this is to measure the voltage under load. Another indicator of low voltage is if the ammeter on the mount starts trying to draw higher amps. Your mount should use about 350-400 miliamps in its tracking state (it will spike higher when slewing). If it starts going to 500 miliamps and above, the reason is almost always low voltage.
