Marine battery=Deep Cycle ?

The battery on my RV gave out. No big deal except that is the battery I use when observing with remote power. I went to Wal-mart and they had no "RV" battery, or "deep-cycle" battery. The guy from automotive said the "marine" battery (yellow Maxx-29) is what I am supposed to use in the RV. I bought it home with me and its charging away out in the garage. The marine battery did not say "deep-cycle" on it anywhere, and there is no "reserve amp hours" listed on it. So--my question: Should I take it back in and go somewhere else for a deep-cycle battery--or is a marine battery a deep-cycle?

It depends. Many marine or 'deep cycle' batteries sold today are actually hybrids that should not be discharged greater than 50% because they have thinner, spongy plates, not the solid plates found in true deep cycle (80%) units.

If it is rated as "CCA" or "MCA", it is likely a hybrid unit. Any decent RV center or Batteries Plus retail store will have true deep cycle batteries for RV applications. They are more expensive than marine deep cycle batteries.
