Meade Deep Sky Imager / Any comments?

Does anyone have any experience with the Meade Deep Sky Imager? I believe this is a fairly new product.

It apparently utilizes Sony’s Super HAD Color CCD Image Sensor Technology.
and uses 48-Bit Color. This thing starts at about $299 and will work with any scope.

According to their site, it is suppose to suppress electronic noise by turning off it's internal power supplies and running the camera on stored energy, while concurrently measuring the intensity of light captured during exposure.

Any comments on this product?

Thanks,
Dan

Gee guys I don't know but I expect if Meade follows its history you will be lucky to get anything before Xmas. For what its worth I was on the LX200GPS list from before the Oct. 2001 release date.If I remimber correctly it was Febuary 2002 before anyone got one. I got mine in June. Then two months later they cut prices and had eyepiece specials. I felt ripped.I wouldn't mind trying one myself but I still have a few reservations abot jumping too soon on new products.

At least they now have images up...but they could be from a prototype.

What has me just a *teensy* bit concerned is that I have yet to see a photograph of the actual product...the image they're using in adds appears to be artwork! This makes me wonder if it even exists at all yet.

I talked with Meade on Thursday about the USB port. It's good for 15' after that you'll need a USB extender.

I emailed Anacortes yesterday and told them they better start stocking USB extenders. They have them on the market that are good to 100-150'

It might be good if they sold them in a package deal.

I too am looking forward to the results. If they are favorable and positive, I may purchase one.
