hi all,
i am thinking about going to a gem for my 127mm f/9 refractor. weighs about 20 lbs. scope is primarily for visual use. it will be on a tripod for a while, but i see a pier in the future. do i go the old school route - find a gp-dx or the like, or maybe go for an orion sirius eq-g or maybe an older gm-8? i had an ap-706 once which was a dream, but a bit overkill for this scope. push to is just fine. i'm mostly after tracking (although high speed slewing with the eq-g would reduce fussing with clutches - an attractive thought). the thing i don't care for is flaky electronics, which usually seems to mean flaky connections. reliability is all. thanks for your thoughts.

I use a Celestron ASGT-5 with the newer style SS legs for my FS-128 and it makes a nice setup for visual only. It provides as steady platform, even for higher power viewing, plus the go-to is nice too.
