Hello,

I am looking at getting a motorized focuser for my Starlight Instruments feathertouch focuer on my APM/TMB 115mmF7. The two options I see are the Digital Focusing system by Starlight Instruments itself which sells for a complete package of about $800 and the second is the Starizona digital focusing package for feathertouch focusers that sells for around $500. I was wondering if anyone has ever compared the two different motorized focusing systems and whether if anyone knows if the Starlight Instruments digital focusing package is worth the extra $300 or so for some reason.

Thanks for any info,

Mike

Hi Mike,
I have the Starizona system. I bought it because it used the same Feathertouch motors and it has a temp sensor built in the system, no add on required. It also is one box, which I found to be better for me. The system also has a new update that increases the torque 2x for more lift from the motors.
It works really well and the program is easy and very useful. It includes FocusMax which I also like a lot.
I think you would find it to be as good or better than the Feathertouch system that costs more.

One big difference between the two controllers is that the Starizona focuser connects to the PC via USB connection and the Starlight Instruments connects via serial port. Many newer laptops no longer have a serial port. I purchased the Starizona version because the temperature probe was built in and the price was lower. I am very happy with the results.
