Again I find myself back at Astromart asking my fellow enthusiasts for some help. I currently own an Orion XT 8 Dob mount scope. As you all know its more of a brute force "map-lovers" scope. I love it. But needless to say I would like to have some type of GOTO scope to set up real quick for my friends or anyone else who comes observing so that I can show them around. I found a lot of GOTO scopes at Meade's Factory Outlet, http://stores.ebay.com/Meade-Factory-Outlet_W0QQsspagenameZL2QQtZkm . Could any of you maybe recommend which you think would be the best deal for money and quality. Much Appreciated.

All of the ones I saw in your link remind me of toys.

The tripods don't look sturdy.

The mounts look like they're mostly plastic.

You'd probably be better off getting a push to system for your existing scope.

I've got a Meade DS-114. For every hour I spent looking
through it, I had to spend about 10 hours fixing factory
problems, replacing parts, fixing stuff that broke in
normal use, etc. The price may seem good, but it is
a very bad investment.

By comparison my Orion XT6 is a really fun scope.
I've got nice views of everything from planets to galaxy clusters
in it. Your money and time would be better spent upgrading
the Orion and learning better how you use it.

As I mentioned in a reply to another post, if it works as promised, Celestron's new Sky Scout (due out in April) may be an affordable alternative to DSC, as it doesn't require encoders. That means you can move it from scope to scope as you acquire new hardware. However, I wouldn't buy one immediately as I'm sure the first batch will have bugs that need to be ironed out. So read the literature on the unit and start saving your money.
