Newbie First 2" Eyepiece Question

I am considering purchase of my first 2" eyepiece for a 8" Newtonian Dob. Would appreciate comments/suggestions for a good first 2" eyepiece. Am I wasting my money, or will a 2" bring superior views to a 1.25"?

thanks for all comments.

You're at a crossroads right now! Before you decide to go and start spending money on what could be rather pricey 2" eyepieces, consider going binoview as well .. depending of course how far you'll go with the 2" selection, there have been people that have financed their binoviewer and several sets of not so expensive eyepieces by selling their 2" eyepiece collection smile
See http://www.astromart.com/messages.asp?message_id=65321&page= for what is a common sentiment.
Binoviewing is not quite for everyone, but I'd suggest you think about it also.

Hello there Carl,

As a newbie too, I think everyone needs at least one 2" *widest* eyepiece in their arsenal. With the 2" eyepiece (such as my 40mm Pentax XL), you can see much wider and can thus appreciate more fully those DSOs (though few) that are simply quite large. Furthermore, the 2" eyepiece double duty as a finder eyepiece and can help you star hop to a tough object.
