Polar alignment failure on CG-5 GoTo mount

The last two nights I have been unable to polar align my CG-5. I start as I always do with a rough polar alignment, set up the time and location, align the index marks and proceed to two star alignment. The first star the software chooses is Arcturus. It slews about half the way, both in declination and RA and stops. I have tried selecting other stars and the same thing happens. This mount has never been what I would call "dead on" but has always got me in the field of view in a 25mm wide field lens. I don't know if my problem is electrical, mechanical or has to do with the software. I'm at a loss and getting frustrated.

I think you mean "go-to alignment," since it doesn't sound like you've got to the polar alignment procedure yet. If you are more than a few degrees from the alignment star something is wrong.

Three initial things to check:

Settings: DST on? Proper time zone? Proper latitude with north/south, east/west set as required.

Power: battery fully charged, cord secure in receptacle on mount. If it's not spread the pins slightly with a small knife/jeweler's screwdriver. If you have another power source, try that.

Factory reset: have you tried a factory reset (you will have to reenter _all_ your settings)?

What happens if you just manually slew it to Acturus after it stops?

How old is the mount?
