Portable Power On The Cheap

Although I have a celestron power tank, I decided to buy a back-up unit from the sportsman's guide. The unit has a 110 volt ac power outlet with up to 140 watts and a 12 volt power outlet with a 10 amp max. It also has a USB power outlet plus a AM/FM radio with decent fidelity and a removable/rechargeable green/red-blinky flashlight. The entire unit can be recharged at home from its AC adapter or in the car from its 12 volt adapter. The unit is yellow in color and is rubber-armor coated. It's a lightweight at 8.3 lbs and the dimensions are 7 x 6.75 x 11.25 inches, making it very compact. I think it meets or exceeds "Floyd Blue specs" grin and it's priced right: $39.00.
If you google sportsmans guide and click on amazing deals at the top of the page, it will appear on the last page (#9) of the website.

Hey Rod,
Sounds good, what is the amp hr rating on the battery? The bigger one list it as 17amp hr which will power a scope very well, even a go-to. 12 amp hr will power my Servocat and Argo Navis nicely for at least one night with all 3 fans too.

You could make your own.....Computer power supplies are cheap and you can get them in all power ratings. Then all you would need is a sealed battery and some connections. Build a box to hold it and your done.

Hi everyone,

My first post; have lurked here a few months and I'm learning a lot! Have an 8" SCT, 80mm ST, and I live 3 hours from Cherry Springs State Park. Life is good!

Thought I would pass along a link for a battery I just ordered. It's a 22AH jump starter, and it cost me $60, including shipping. Here's the link:
