raise the red lantern

what do people use for camping lanterns when camping at a star party.
you still want to turn the lights on when you get in your tent, read a bit before going to sleep and generally see what you're doing in your tent without flooding out with white lights.

any red lantern ideas out there?

thanks.

I bought a large roll of red cellophane at Michael's (a hobby/craft chain) a few years ago. A couple of layers of that around almost any light source works for me. Usually not pretty because of the odd shapes of most lantern covers, but effective. You can vary the intensity by adding more layers. Of course this is not for gas lanterns!!!
