Hello all,
I am looking to purchase a digital camera for astrophotography. I am looking for value and quality of exposures. Compatibility with Potoshop for stacking is a must too.
RATE YOUR TOP FIVE. IT'S FUN AND IT WILL HELP ME OUT A LOT. YOUR TOP ONE IS ALSO FINE (LOL:0) GIVE REASONS FOR RATING AND RETAIL PRICE IF YOU CAN.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

Nikon CP4500, 4 MP, $450. OK, not great.
Alot more dark noise than normal CCD cameras for
deep sky stuff. For planets it just can't compete
with web cams -- 1 picture every 1 or 2 seconds
is too slow. Not even that good for people pics --
everyones gone home by the time it processes a
full-res pic. Good for equipment photos and
snaps on travel. (Maybe I'm just a film kinda guy.)

You may want to visit a site called www.dpreview.com

I'd pick a camera with low noise at high ISO. That is why I chose the 10D over the D100.

I also like the smaller chip sizes vs standard 35mm because you naturally get a little more magnification, but other people probably like 35mm format for opposite reasons.

Also, don't fear CMOS vs CCD. Canon has done a great job progressing CMOS technology.

Feature laiden cameras are also usually a waste because your lense is completely manual.

Thank you all for your great advice. It seems the more I read, the more it seems that I need a camera with longer exposures. Are there any out there besides the coolpix and the over expensive Nikons?
THank you again.
