Starmax 90, a good buy?

Hi all!

I've reading the reviews of the starmax 102 and the starmax 127 and they seem like pretty good scopes for the money. Looks like I'll have a chance to get an starmax 90 for a good price. Is it as good as their larger brothers? I already own an astroview 100, but I'd like something that could allow me to go high power for a good price. I live in a very light polluted area anyway and I'm looking for something very portable to look at the moon and planets.

Thanks!

Hi Saul:

I am not sure that that Starmax 90 would add much to what is possible with the Astroview 100. The Astroview 100 should benifit from a "minus violet" filter, clean up that purple haze around the planets.

On the otherhand, one can never have enough telescopes. If that good price is a really good price then you might find you really enjoy it. Myself, I am not a big fan of small MAKs, really too small to be a great scope on planetary targets.

If light pollution is a problem, the going up in aperture is the way to see more. Those Hardin 6 inch DOBs for $99 are a pretty impressive deal.
