Too Picky??

I was doing a star test the other night.. I had a decent circle on defocused outside but when I defocused inside it looked like a rough surface image or poor atmosphere image..

It was good on outside but not on inside...

1. is this a problem with the focuser?
2. If it is a problem with the optics how do you correct it?
3. Or am I just being plain too picky.... After all it seems to have no effect on my focused viewing..

Any info or suggestions??

thanks

I think it has to do with under or over-correction in the optices. not something you can fix. just go for best in-focus collimation.

Most likely poor seeing and is very common depending on where you live. I rarely get to see good rings on both sides of focus in any of my scopes because where I live the jet stream is usually right overhead. One side usually is quite nice and the other just boils and dances around.

This of course does not rule out that something could be wrong with the optics, I would evaluate it on several more nights before coming to a conclusion.
