Michael, what i did is go to the steal supply yard and have them cut me off a piece of 6" round stock, my need was for about 23 lbs. so 2 and 3/4 inch piece was perfect, had them drill a 1&1/2 inch hole in the center, (shaft size) then cross drilled and taped a 1/2" by 13 thread hole went to the hardware store and got a set screw 2" long, cleaned it up and painted it done deal looks great weighs 22.75 pounds and balances 6f12 perfectly cost about $50.00. john
I'll chime in on this one. I bought two 4 lb weight lifting weights at the thrift store for about $.99 each. Then I bought some fender washers, a 3/8 carriage bolt and a couple nuts and threaded this assembly into where the safety catch would otherwise screw into the end of the shaft on my GM-8. Then I use my "real" losmandy 7lb weight as the actual sliding part on the shaft for balance of my G9.25" SCT. Total cost: about $5.00, including gas . I ran a wing nut onto the carriage bolt backwards and locked it into place with the first fender washer and a nut, creating a "knob" to use to tighten the assembly. (this was followed by the weights, another fender washer and another nut and the whole thing is threaded into the shaft).
