What would be the general opinion of this http://cgi.ebay.com/Meade-DS-2090AT-TC-refractor-with-Autostar-20095-RE_W0QQitemZ7595668078QQcategoryZ74928QQcmdZViewItem scope and mount and specificlly would the be able to holdup using an older film camera (no plastic just good old alum. and brass)?

My first foray into refractorville (copyscope) didn't work so good, so now I'm going to try to talk mama out some of the tax money and pick up a reasonably decent scope.

Meade also has a 70mm short tube fork mounted with the 494 tracking & GOTO system and the electronic eyepiece.

I am leaning toward the long tube mainly because of the aperture and the eyepieces.

Your opinion?

The "star" we look at tonight may have exploded millenniums ago. (To progress, we must discern what exists and what does not).

I would hold off talking to mama on this one. I love refractors and have a few but these are pretty much plastic fantastic with lots of features but not much meat.

For using a film camera you are going to want an EQ mounted or wedge mounted scopes...

Dennis, I'm with Jon & Jim... if you plan on doing ANY photography through your scope, you'll need a strong enough focuser, a sturdy enough mount, and good tracking... neither one of these things comes cheap...

Might want to look around Astromart for a while, and check for good "affordable" refractors, like this one...

And a Mount to go with it, like this one... or better...

You'll be looking roughly into spending around $1000 for a decent setup...

Sorry if this is NOT what you expected to hear, but we much rather tell you the truth (as painful as it could be) than to see you spend your money on something thats NEVER gonna do the trick...

Clear skies, and good luck!
