Meade Series 4000 Smoothies

Well, after years of surfing ads, I have finally acquired the complete set of the first generation Meade Series 4000 eyepieces-the "Smoothies". I use them in a C11 and have found them to be excellent eyepieces. The build quality is superb. I know they are almost 30 years old but there is just something about them (there is probably a support group for people like me). Plus the challenge of finding and assembling a complete set was kinda fun. Just had to have patience.

NICE!! I have a pair of 24.5mm SWA and a pair of 18mm SWA I use for binoviewing and they are indeed excellent EP's.....

Nice! I love any smoothies. The Plossls are excellent for your scope... fancier eyeps are $$$ and extravagent. At f/10, f/8 feed the Plossls perform perfectly. My scope is f/3.8 so (sigh) "NEED" TV and the Paracorr = $$$. I've been collecting them. Tom

Great collection! I have owned several of the Series 4000 eyepieces and found each excellent performers. My favorite - I have owned three - is the 14mm UWA. Great eyepiece, superb views in so many scopes I have lost count!

I have the UWA's in 14 mm, 8.8 mm and 6.7 mm and the SWA's in 24.5 mm, 18 mm, 13.8 mm and the series 4000 APO triplet barlow. No Plossls, though. Great eyepieces.

I had the ES 8.8 mm UWA that I immediately returned after purchasing. Could not see the entire field without moving my eyeball around and the blackout (kidney beaning) was very annoying. I replaced the ES with the Meade UWA 8.8 and found nirvana. No blackouts and could see the entire field with one eye position. Same for the 14 mm UWA. And stars are pinpoint to the edge of the field. Both very fine eyepieces.
