i have a compliment of nagler eyepieces for my astonomical scope, but due to *&*^*&# weather im now doing more daytime nature viewing and often in seashore environments. i am at present looking for a high quality spotting scope primarily due to its moisture protection.
the question i have regards dual purpose use with a high quality spotting scope. has anyone used a nagler 3, 4 or 5mm eyepiece for nightime use, and in "good seeing" with either a swarovski, zeiss, or leica 80mm spotter, and what were the results?
any response is appreciated.
cheers, don

I HAVE HAD THE SWAORSKI & THE PENTAX 80 ED. BOTH ARE GONE. I HAVE THE TV 85 WHICH CAN'T BE BEAT ON THE GROUND & ISN'T TOO BAD FOR THE SKY EITHER.I HAVE UEED THE 3.5 & 5 T-6 & 7 & 9 T-2 IN ALL SCOPES. THERE ALL EXCELLENT BUT THE TV 85 IS SUPERIOR. IF YOUR NOT HIKING A LOT THE 85 IS THE WAY TO GO

i can't say about those scope but the Nagler 4.8 in my ED-80 was a real eye opener... I use 2 inch Everbright star diagonal so its a pretty simple optical train...

I have the Swaro 80 with the 20x60 zoom. I haven't used a Nagler (it would need some sort of adapter), but it is hard to imagine too much better of a picture than with the Swaro zoom. My most memorable picture of the Omega nebula was with this setup from a dark sky site(Compared with MUCH larger scopes, this was most pleasing.)

And you have a sealed zoom eyepiece. And if it is any consolation, it is not cheaper than a Nagler... wink

And best of all, you get to buy some new equipment!
