Is the 28mm Edmund Scientific RKE the only one in the series to demonstrate the legendary "floating in space" effect? How about the 21mm? Are there other eyepieces that display this?

While the 28mm RKE is reputed to have this effect, it also prone to blackouts. I doubt that the others in the series will provide the effect you're describing.
The larger, heavier and more expensive naglers and ES series will also provide a similar effect. I think you'll enjoy using an RKE 28mm once you get used to it and find the sweet spot in positioning your head to avoid blackouts seen in this and other longer focal eyepieces with large exit pupils and eye relief.
