I sent my Telescopics Classical Casegrain mirror set to Newport Glass Works to be recoated in time for the Mars opposition. It came back today with chips and terrible scaring from one end of the mirror to the other- leaving it totally useless. At first I thought it was someone elses mirror. I called them and they said there was some kind of reaction with the glass. My question is- Is there anything I can do, I have been working on this scope for two years and all I needed was new coatings to make it complete. I can't believe it AAAAGGH! The picture provide is the mirror before sending it to be recoated.

Sincerely, Steve the sad guy

They are feeding you bull. Chips are caused by miss handling. I would tell them to fix it or replace it. If you paid on credit card get your money back by calling credit card company.Save this picture so if you have to talk to a lawyer you have proof of the damage they caused.

Sorry you had problems

I really cannot help much, other than to offer an, I'm sorry this happened, thats alot of work. Stay cool, calm and collected. Things will work out better than you think, although it might take a little time.

My sympathies as well, empathy actually, as I find it very easy to imagine what you are feeling.

Can you capture the scarring in a photo? Just be curious to see it.

Steve
Is it a D&G 20 inch??

I've never heard of a reaction between aluminium and glass before.

Perhaps Newport need to pay for a new mirror or get this one resurfaced by a reputable optician to an acceptable stsndard.

It is a thick mirror by appearance.
