i went to download an astronomy app on my iphone only to discover the are 50 of them . any input on which one is the best for tacking stars! etc>>

SkySafari is by all means the best.....from the free version right on up thru the pay versions. Been using it for years now. There is no substitute.....

I agree with Greg. Sky Safari is excellent. Currently controlling my scopes with version 6 pro.
