My Street Lamp

I was focusing my finders the other day and I decided to use a street lamp down the road.

First thing I noticed was that it had texture. Never saw a lamp glass cover up close before.

As it started getting dark, I saw all kinds of insects buzzing around it.

Now, it was getting cloudy out, so I wasn't going to see much up there.

But then it dawned on me. We are basically only looking at light anyways. Shiny objects, or the blocking of them, or reemission.

And as terrestrial as it might be, there's a lot to see on your local lamp post. (and it's legal!)

So if it's cloudy tonight, that's what I'm doing. Might even sketch it at intervals...

BTW, anyone notice those "variable" lamps?

It seems every time I get a new scope, or finderscope, I get it set up by focusing on a street lamp down the road a bit. I also like to check out the old porcelain fixtures that were left on the power poles.

And yes, it is interesting to see it up close. Strange how fascinating ordinary, every day things around us are, when you see them in a new way like that.
