Need advice for a 90/125mm scope

I have been using a 102mm Tak refractor, my back has took a turn for worse and I can't lift it up due to it's weight. I Am not not up on any mirrored scopes (I had a 2045 ota years ago) and am looking for something similar in size, 90/125mm range that has good reviews.

To keep the weight down I plan on mounting the ota on a light weight Bogen tripod via a simple 1/4 x20

I realize this is not an ideal set up by any stretch of the imagination. At least it will at least get me back under the stars.

I know better than to expect it to be as good as the 102 Tak for planetary and lunar observing. I need some advice on who makes a good scope in this type and size. Price is really no object. I am not a fan of Questar, have looked through one more then once and was not impressed.

You might want to consider some of the smaller aperture offerings in the intes-micro line from Teton telescopes, an AM sponsor.

Sorry to hear about your back, I hope it improxes. A couple of thoughts;

- the Meade 2045 wasn't the best, mirrored. Should not be judged by it. Weight wise, the celestron c5 packs a lot of punch, I used one on a Bohemia 3040.

Still, I am with you, AI much prefer my smaller Scopes be detractors. Currently I use a TV NP101, it weighs about 11 lbs and is too big for a bogen.

How much can you lift?

How about a Takahashi Sky 90?

Mount the scope side saddle or by an astro style head..

How about a borg 101 ed? Only 5 lbs, compared to the Tak's 11 lbs. Ought to ride a bogen pretty well. Not up to the tak's quality, but probably not too shabby.
