12v or 18v DC Power Source for LX200 Classic

Should I be using a 12v or 18v DC power source for my 10” LX200 Classic? I’m under the assumption that 12v is correct, but after searching the net, I found several postings stating that the LX200 Classic requires 18v. Any comments and / or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Paul smile

Paul:

The classics run on 18v.
My 12" has an 18v ac adapter, and a 12v to 18v adapter.

Hey Paul,

I run my Classic from an 18v 75AH marine deep cycle battery using a 12 volt-18 volt convertor. I actually put my marine battery into a marine battery cover box and wired in some car cigarette lighters. The scope loves it and I can also run a laptop or dew zapper from if needed. It's also easier to transport, albeit a little heavy.

Here's a link to show you what I did. Total cost about $80.00 from Walmart!

Thanks for all the great responses. I’m thinking about purchasing a “second-hand” new Celestron Power Tank (#18774) and was wondering if it would work with my LX200. Again, any comments and / or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Paul smile

When I purchased my used Classic, it came with a 12v DC to 18v DC converter and a 110v AC to 18v DC converter. The question I have is why does it say 12v DC motor in the manual and 12v DC next to the power supply input on the control panel. Again, any comments and / or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Paul smile
