I'm just putting my first rig together, and my diagonal is somewhere in UPS land right now. Just for something to do, I put an eyepiece directly into the focuser (no diagonal). I expected to see a reversed image, but it won't focus at all. I discovered it will "sort of " focus if I loosen the E/P and hold it about an inch further out than the normal position. I'm hoping that the added length of the diagonal will make this go away. The scope is a Tak FS-78 and the E/P is a Nagler 11 T6, in case it matters. Thanks...
Beginner eyepiece focus question

Unfortunately, it doesn't sound like you can reach the right focal length to focus without the diagonal. If your focuser had another inch of travel, it might work. But, I think your gonna be stuck waiting to see what Brown can bring you.
However, your telescope isn't broken or anything. I think what you're experiencing is pretty normal.

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.

Ed,
You have the guru of Takahashi over there in the US of A, Art Campi from TNR and he would be the best person to ask about the extension tubes you require. It's odd because I read somewhere that the Japanese prefer straight through view as opposed to using a diagonal. TNR also has accessories schematics on their website for their scopes that shows all the adaptors you require for any type of viewing or imaging. But I'd drop Art an e-mail (wish we had someone like him here in Australia).

OK, so I have the scope set up like this: see pic
New stuff is the Tak 2" adapter and a W/O 45 degree correcting prism - this replaced the 1.25" adapter that was on the scope before. The new assembly is about 3/8" shorter than the 1.25" one that it replaced.
Tak 2" adapter is screwed directly onto focuser tube
2" W/O correcting prism (diagonal)is inserted into adapter
Either a 35 Pan in the diagonal, or an 11 Nagler (with adapter) Both work about the same.
Instead of the previous problem I posted (couldn't move focuser out far enougn to focus, now I can't move the focuser in far enough to focus.
So how do I fix that? The 2" adapter is just deep enough to accept the diagonal, so I don't think a shorter one is feasible. Is it possible that the scope/diagonal/eyepieces combo I have are simply incompatible?
If so, anybody wanna buy a telescope?
