I’m planning a trip to California and was wondering if there are any telescope retailers near Disneyland (Anaheim) and / or Legoland (Carlsbad)? Also, are there any astronomy related places to visit? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance smile

Hi Paul,

Welcome to my neighborhood!

Regarding astronomy related places to visit; when you're done with Legoland in Carlsbad you might think of heading up to Mount Palomar. They have daily tours of the ol 200". If you come on a new moon weekend you can't go wrong by heading up to Mount Pinos (just north of L.A.). Lots of friendly people and no end of telescopes to look through.

Have a nice trip!

When are you coming?

The Riverside Astronomical Society (and several others in the area) have monthly star parties at dark sites in the desert. You are always welcome.

As for other astronomical sites--There is a mountain near my house--Box Springs Mountain, to be exact. It is only a little mountain--about 2000 feet maybe. But from its top you can see the observatory sites (Mt. Wilson and Mt. Palomar--one is fifty miles in one direction, the other thirty miles in another) where they had the world's largest telescopes for most of the last century, where they determined what a galaxy is, where they discovered the "red shift," where Mikkelson and Morley proved the speed of light (using mirrors set up on another nearby mountain)----well, we could go on.

Paul:

Legoland is just a few miles south of Oceanside Photo and Telescope, (www.optcorp.com)

They're one of the dealers like Anacortes Telescope and Wild Bird, friendly, knowledgeable folks with good prices.
