Where do I put the finder scope?"

On my 10" reflector I would like to know where certain accessories go on the tube. I have the telrad and a Right-Angle Correct Image Finder Scope. Where do both of these mount on the tube in relation to the focuser?

Gernerally the Telrad goes on the "Top" of the scope (when the tube is sitting horizontally). And it goes near the front, I would say on a 10 inch scope.

The finder should go someplace between it and the focuser, generally. However--Make sure it is far enough out of your way that it does not interfere with your looking through the eyepiece. Make sure you can get youe eye to the eyepiece on it without moving your head around too much from main eyepiece to finder eyepeice.

Or, as the other poster has said--forget about it entirely. You will find yourself using the Telrad and a low power eyepiece, and rarely stopping by the finder scope.

By the way, all of this is subject to personbal preference. And you will get almost as many opinions as there are observers.

I, for instance, put my focuser on the "wrong" side of the telescope according to many. But I like it where I have it.

In reply to both of the prior replies I have 2 Orion scopes and the focuser for each scope is on different sides, they came pre-drilled that way. Unlike golf clubs I do not think it really matters if your left handed or right handed. wink I say in reply to both because if there is a wrong side one of my scopes is backwards, and if I put the telrad clockwise from the focuser on the 12 inch scope it would be on the side. grin
