M16

Does any one know what type of aperture that you need to see a hint of the "pillars" in M16? Or, is this feature of the nebula strictly photographic?

For the sake of the discussion Ricardo, by "pillars" do you mean the "eagle" as clearly seen in this beautiful photo captured by the Meade LX200?
