I have Cartes and stellarium, but I was wondering if there was a moon-only software or freeware thing that allowed you to easily predict phase and position of the moon at night.

This is from the Heavens Above site:

Pete

Try this for observing and identifying lunar features:

For position, phase, occulted stars, for any date or location, try Skytools 2.

Good luck,
John

My monthly astronomical calendar shows the phase, orientation of terminator, and relative apparent size of the Moon for each night. Many people download it as their computer’s desktop background wallpaper. It can be seen by clicking: http://www.curtrenz.com/astronomical.html
