How was this weekends CSSP? Looked pretty bad on weather radar...anyone get some observing time??? Looking forward to the Black forest SP, better time of year I think!

Saturday night was awesome, but the rest was pretty much described by the subject line - a washout. The talks were great, especially the one by Rod Mollise. As far as I'm concerned, any star party isn't a total washout when you can spend time with a bunch of star-crazed like-minded crazy people! I made some new friends and caught up with some old ones. Only real down side was that I didn't win anything this year at the door prize raffle!

Despite the less than ideal weather, I had a good time at the 2006 Cherry Springs Star Party. There were some excellent talks (did anyone here bother to attend mine?) and other activities and most of the 180 plus people who actually showed up seemed to have a good time too.
Saturday night, while far from the best that Cherry Springs has to offer, was quite enjoyable. Although the transparency was variable, the summer Milky Way was quite prominent and many DSOs were seen to good advantage. I scope-hopped for the entire night and had some fine views through scopes like Tom Bakowski's modified 12.5" Meade Dob, fellow ASH member Bob Werkman's 120mm Orion refractor and 18" Obsession Dob, and the new 20" Starmaster Sky Tracker Dob owned by fellow DVAA member Vince Sheetz. My final observation of the night was the globular cluster G1 in M31 through Vince's Starmaster as astronomical twilight began.
