Reported on the morning news: gasoline prices headed way up, no supply and demand issues with gasoline demand at a 10 year low, all due to speculation. The oil speculators and the oil companies are already priming us for huge increases in the spring and summer: $4-5/gallon soon...

And you don't think they have something to "speculate" about? Iran recently threatened to cut off it's supply to the west and Obama shot down the keystone pipeline. It's not "speculators" driving up the price, it's idiotic left wing policies.

There are two ancient and mythical countries far, far away in the East. Ten years ago hardly anyone could afford anything with four wheels.
Today, together they buy almost twice as many cars the (former) #1 auto market in the world. The (slightly) more populous country by itself buys 50% more cars than the (former) #1 market.
I would think on a global scale, this has got to have an effect on oil prices, hasn't it?

If gas gets to be $4 or $5 a gallon, my wife and I have decided to become Big Screen Americans. Instead of cruising, we're gonna buy a big arse TV and get used to watching Pay-per-View.

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.
