I recently gave a presentation on my sighting of an Ivory-Billed Woodpecker in Florida at an art gallery in Waynesville, Ohio. After the Q&A, during the mingling part, I introduced myself to an older gentlemen who looked very familiar, but I couldn't place him. I asked him his name, and he replied, "Neil... Neil Armstrong." Yes, it was that Neil Armstrong. I asked him if he had an interest in Ivory-Billed woodpeckers, but he said not especially. I'm not sure what he was doing there, but I think he knew the gallery owners ( I later figured out that one of the other presenters was his granddaughter). I really wanted to ask him all about Apollo (as a kid I had photos from Apollo all over my bedroom walls), but I bit my tongue and let him talk. He said he's still legal to fly, but doesn't own a plane anymore, and flies others' planes.

John, It's a shame you couldn't get a 'shot' of the Ivory Bill to add to your exceptional photo gallery.

Neat running into Armstrong. smile

Congratulations -- talk about a rare sighting! For many years he was described as a recluse, and some reports even suggested he was mentally ill. Perhaps he's turned a corner.
