Well, I've seen the same concerns in my readings on SETI and they appear popularized in the movie, "Independence Day".

Rod, I've stated this before, but I think there is as much a possibility of man communicating with aliens, as man communicating with ants. :S

I think that there is some danger to communication, we just have no idea of what another creature might think about us. We could be in danger IF they were capable of interstellar flight. However, I think that there will be very few that will have that capability out there. I feel that the possibility of achieving Warp Speed is slim, not impossible, but unlikely, so a trip would take a long time and be very difficult.

If there are space faring creatures out there, then we just might not want them to drop by and say hi. It could be a wonderful day or the worst thing that ever could happen. Just the danger or biological pathogens is enough to scare the heck out of you. We would have no immunity to anything that they might bring with them, even things that were symbiotic for them could wipe us out in no time.

How do we ever expect to communicate with another creature on the other side of the galaxy when we can't even communicate with anything other than humans here on earth? The aliens would just laugh at us, take us away and eat us for lunch. After all it is a long trip and food is scarce out there. cwy
