JP’s duet of Angel from Montgomery with Bonnie Raitt is one of my favorite recordings of all time.   

Regarding Trump, this is his style - outrageous threats followed by a reprieve for negotiations.   Is it effective?   I have no idea, but it is predictable.

Are the outrageous threats posted on social media illegal?   I do not know.   I can say that I was not worried Trump would bomb Iranian civilian infrastructure into oblivion tonight.  Bluster is his mode of operation.

This turn of events is an off ramp for Trump.   Will the Iranian people be better off in two weeks?   Maybe, but I doubt it.   Is Israel safer?   I think so.   Our military and Israel’s military are very competent and I trust Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities have been further set back.

True that, but to me, being predictable makes it ineffective.

Yeah, for me and you for sure.   But when one is negotiating with tyrants who have a track record of mass murder and terrorism, maybe threatening annihilation is effective?   Obviously this sort of threat is more credible coming from Trump than any other modern president.

These are idle musings of course.   I’m not arguing that Trump is a mastermind, not by a long shot.   We won’t have any idea of the various resolutions of all the issues for a long while, even though we all know Trump will declare that he saved Iran and the world in two weeks, and then move on to whatever is next.
