Granted, I've probably watched too many corny Sci Fi movies that don't end well. And my Mom always told me not to talk to strangers. So my first take on this may seem a little paranoid, but I must ask -- Why are we doing this?
If there are extraterrestrials out there, should we be betting the farm that they are benevolent beings with nothing but good intentions?
If not, and things don't work out, we just won't be able to walk away. There are no "do-overs."
Well, I guess we can always hope for the best that no one will bother with us.

As one who has always talked to strangers, I think it's better for us to find out first there are other beings out there. We can then seriously prepare for what would, without doubt, be an event with world changing implications. If others are out there, they will likely find us before we find them. Perhaps that has already happened, but we should be prepared for anything. Some of those strangers I have talked to were amongst the nicest people I have ever met, on the other hand some of those people weren't.
