I am hearing this sentiment quite a lot these days and I must admit, it perplexes me. How do you see God as being spurned? I don't have time to go find the research at the moment, but we are currently seeing people seeking spiritual answers (for lack of a better term) in greater and greater numbers.
If you mean keeping sanctioned prayer out of schools and religious monuments out of courts, it's a tired argument. That is not spurning God, that is keeping spiritual matters where they belong - in one's private life.
