These images were taken with a 175EDF refractor using my Sony NEX-7 digital camera. Exposures were limited to 30 second shots, approximately 10 to 30 each, stacked in MaximDL.

The Saturn pix was a single 1 sec exposure for the Moons and a series of 1/30 sec exposures for the planet, superimposed on top of the overexposed 1 sec planet image.

Just having some fun with this camera to see how well a simple consumer digital works with an amateur telescope. The images are all to the same scale, by the way. The M27 image is a bit fainter than the others. I only had 8 of the 30 sec exposures, plus it is a fainter object. The Blinking Plaetary surprised me at its brightness.

Pretty nice! You must have done some red boosting of the Dumbbell and Ring Thing.
The background has a very magenta cast in these two images. The Blinker worked out
extremely well for how blue-green sensitive the camera appears to be. Saturn is the
best though. I am impressed with it. It looks so much like the actual naked eye view
with something like a 4 or 5 inch refractor and moderately high mag.

How much fun is that!
Were there any calibration frames involved, e.g. darks and flats?

That is actually pretty amazing when you consider the exposure time. Of course a good scope and mount helps! wink

Are you able to connect your nex7 to maxim? if so what camera did you select or is there an ascom driver for it
